 The American Foundry Society

The AFS mission is to provide and promote knowledge and services that strengthen the metalcasting industry for the ultimate benefit of its customers and society.

The American Foundry Society was founded “to promote the arts and sciences applicable to metalcasting manufacture and to improve the methods of production and the quality of castings.”

AFS services include:

  • Teamwork: Direction and coordination for an international organization of approximately 13,000 members in 47 countries.

  • Education: The Cast Metals Institute (CMI)was founded in 1956 to assist foundry management in training and educating the work force.

  • Technology: The AFS technical staff responds to “hotline ”requests for technical information, manages and develops research efforts and funding, edits and publishes technical books, and provides liaison from the technical committees.

  • Management: The Human Resource and the Marketing Management Services committees lead the industry to develop programs and services internationally.

  • Government Affairs: Through its Washington office. AFS monitors the activities of congressional committees, subcommittees and governmental agencies.

Our neutral stance and flexible, innovative contracting build an environment of trust in which even fierce competitors benefit from collaboration. Our efforts will help fuel economic growth and cost effective government.

The North American Die Casting Association (NADCA)

NADCA ’s mission is to continue as the worlNorth American Die Casting Associationdwide leader in stimulating growth and improvements in the die casting industry. The U.S. die casting industry contributes over $7.2 billion annually to the economy and directly employs over 60,000 people. The Industry in North America leads the rest of the world in new technology, high productivity solutions, innovative applications, and superior quality. NADCA members produce over 85%of all the die castings produced annually in North America. Members use their collective efforts to produce statistics, technical information, and managerial data on the die casting industry.

In the CMC Program, NADCA uses many different vehicles to transfer information. One example is the NADCA website, which is visited by over 6,000 people per month. NADCA also provides educational courses, seminars, publications and special reports. The CMC program combines NADCA ’s research management abilities with its information transfer methods to deliver significant results to die casting operations as well as their defense and commercial customers.

Steel Founders' Society of America

Steel Founders Society of AmericaThe mission of the Steel Founders ’ Society of America is to promote and assist our industry in the effective manufacture of steel castings through technology development, and to expand the use and application of steel castings.

Producing steel castings is a demanding manufacturing process. Technical and operating conditions are difficult, customer requirements are tight, competition is intense, and other processes or products are constantly invading the marketplace. These challenges make managing a steel foundry a formidable job.

SFSA is a not-for-profit technical association to promote and develop steel castings. We strive to provide leadership in developing new technology, a forum for exchange of technical and operating experience, promoting understanding and expansion of the steel casting marketplace.

The shared practical and engineering knowledge of our members improves processes and products. Higher quality and productivity, lower cost to manufacture, greater design freedom, and improved deliveries will aid in expanding our markets. The collaboration between the members of the Cast Metals Coalition, research organizations and industry, coupled with the support of the DOE Office of Industrial Technology leverages research efforts that accelerate the technological advancement of the U.S. metal casting industry.
